2006 Bennie Awards
The Bennie Awards recognize excellence in neighborhood design and construction. The Builders Association of the Twin Cities created the awards in 2001 to recognize the best traditional and new-concept neighborhood designs.
The neighborhood projects are judged on aesthetic appeal, land plan, retention of natural features, amenities such as parks and trails, neighborhood structures like mailboxes and signage, and traffic flow within and to each neighborhood. The Bennie Awards are divided into three different categories single-family, association-maintained, and “new”. “New” neighborhoods are defined as combining a variety of different housing types, a retail or commercial component and a pedestrian-friendly design. This category adds judging criteria for mixed-use opportunities, range of types and prices, and pedestrian appeal.
The Bennie Awards judges are chosen from members of the development community. The judges visit the neighborhoods in their category and complete a judging form. Scores are tabulated and the winners are chosen based on raw scores and rankings.
