Moving to Temporary Housing Downtown.

Kyle and Tim Anderson with Ronnie and Aileen Payne who lost their son Ron in Afghanistan in 2003 and remodeler partner Bob and Val Flynn whose son served with Ron in Afghanistan.  Aileen and Ronnie flew in from Florida to visit the Flynns over Thanksgiving and enjoyed getting together with Kyle and Tim.

JJ Vanderson & Co. are providing all the low voltage wiring, sound, and security. John Sr. & John Jr. Vandermyde along with several of their technicians listened intently to Tim, Kyle, & Matt’s requests and to understand Kyle’s hearing limitations and his disability to create a customized sound and security system. The whole JJ Vanderson crew really hit it off with Kyle and were honored to meet him and his family.

Westside Companies’ owner Dick Schutrop (left) Andrew (center) & Mark (right) have been on the project since the first day when they began demolition with a number of volunteers. They have done all the interior carpentry framing and overall supervision of the other trades. Dick is a vet. Mark’s son is in Marine boot camp.

New Spaces’ Kathe Ostrom & Nicolle Nielsen, project designers have worked many hours designing the space to meet Kyle’s unique needs as well as providing comfortable spaces for Tim and Matt.

Early December AEM Electric completed the garage and main level wiring.

The Parade of Homes Radio Hour^SM featured Operation Dream Makeover on its December 22nd program on WCCO AM Radio.

Concrete – Thanks to Steve Muenchow and Muenchow Masonry for great concrete work for the front porch footing, block & slab, and deck footings.

Dave from Oakland Plumbing worked several late nights to fit this volunteer project around his busy schedule.

Insulation – Builders/Webster Insulation provided all the wall and attic insulation.

Thanks to Berg Drywall for their incredible help with drywall and taping.

Thanks to Kelly Green Contracting for their hard work on garage roof, front porch & deck.

Scherer Brothers Lumber – Millwork (interior doors & trim), framing lumber, decking, exterior doors, siding & roof trusses all thanks to Scherer Brothers Lumber, and thanks to Marvin windows which donated all the windows.

Chair of the Builders Outreach Foundation, Gary Aulik, joins Remodeler Partners Bob Flynn, Flynn Construction, Shawn Nelson, New Spaces, and designer Kathe Ostrom, C.N. Ostrom/New Spaces on site as they check out construction progress.

Ron from Innovative Surfaces using a laser to check how level the cabinets were installed before fabrication of the countertops. The laser said the countertops were installed level by Terry and Jim from Northland Cabinets.

Innovative Surfaces put the Marine logo onto the Corian slab in Kyle's shower.

Todd Farmer and Joe Rogers from Scherer Bros. with Kyle. Scherer Bros. lumber provided all the lumber, roof trusses, interior & exterior doors, millwork and siding at a significant discount. They also arranged for a full donation of the Trex decking and Marvin Windows.

John Kirchner and John Taylor from Marvin Windows and Doors with Kyle. Marvin gave a full donation of all the windows and a patio door for the entire house.

Because of Kyle’s balance issues we didn’t want him standing on a stool to reach the top shelves of the cabinets. By installing the pull down shelves in the upper cabinets Kyle can easily access items from all three shelves.

Kathe had dividers installed in the drawers. Because of Kyle’s brain injury it is important for him to have a set place for things he uses on a routine basis. His brain is free to heal in other ways if he’s not always trying to remember where something is.

Kathe designed a recycling cabinet consistent with how the city had them separate their recycling items.

What a great turnout for Operation Dream Makeover and a fantastic opportunity to meet a heroic young man, Kyle Anderson.

Mpls Glass – Clearview Solutions-  Rob Carlton from Mpls Glass (left) Mpls Glass is donating the shower doors and mirrors. David Meyers (right) from Clearview Surface Solutions will be applying a sealer to all the shower doors, and tile throughout the house.

Siding – The new siding for the house was donated by LP Building Products. The product is an engineered wood siding called SmartSide.

Siding Schwieters – The installation of the siding was completely provided by J.L. Schwietrers.
