Kyle and Tim Anderson with Ronnie and Aileen Payne who lost their son Ron in Afghanistan in 2003 and remodeler partner Bob and Val Flynn whose son served with Ron in Afghanistan. Aileen and Ronnie flew in from Florida to visit the Flynns over Thanksgiving and enjoyed getting together with Kyle and Tim.

JJ Vanderson & Co. are providing all the low voltage wiring, sound, and security. John Sr. & John Jr. Vandermyde along with several of their technicians listened intently to Tim, Kyle, & Matt’s requests and to understand Kyle’s hearing limitations and his disability to create a customized sound and security system. The whole JJ Vanderson crew really hit it off with Kyle and were honored to meet him and his family.

Westside Companies’ owner Dick Schutrop (left) Andrew (center) & Mark (right) have been on the project since the first day when they began demolition with a number of volunteers. They have done all the interior carpentry framing and overall supervision of the other trades. Dick is a vet. Mark’s son is in Marine boot camp.

New Spaces’ Kathe Ostrom & Nicolle Nielsen, project designers have worked many hours designing the space to meet Kyle’s unique needs as well as providing comfortable spaces for Tim and Matt.

Because of Kyle’s balance issues we didn’t want him standing on a stool to reach the top shelves of the cabinets. By installing the pull down shelves in the upper cabinets Kyle can easily access items from all three shelves.
Kathe had dividers installed in the drawers. Because of Kyle’s brain injury it is important for him to have a set place for things he uses on a routine basis. His brain is free to heal in other ways if he’s not always trying to remember where something is.
Kathe designed a recycling cabinet consistent with how the city had them separate their recycling items.
