A Newly Remodeled Home to Say Thank You

The Builders?Outreach Foundation’s remodeler partners, Flynn Construction and New Spaces, with a whole lot of help from dozens and dozens of volunteers has transformed this 60’s era walkout rambler from a hodgepodge of spaces that sort-of worked for this injured Marine and his family into a home that will serve his needs now and long into the future.

The renovated home begins with an entirely new front facade. The original flat-roofed garage and tiny front windows seemed to close off the outside world. Now the home feels welcoming and cheerful, with a new gabled roof on garage and on the new front porch plus Prostone Ledgestone accents and stone-white Marvin Integrity clad windows to lend pizazz.

Inside the floorplan has been modified just a bit to open up the main level with great spaces for relaxing and entertaining, enhancing Kyle’s private quarters, and improving his brother, Matt’s bedroom with an mini-office and a private bath. Downstairs the mish-mash of room has been re-defined as a caregivers suite (currently that’s Kyle’s dad, Tim), laundry, and a rec room.

Many of the finishes and selections were thoughtfully chosen to accommodate Kyle’s need for one-handed access and easy cleanup. The flooring throughout the main level is Shaw Green Edge engineered hardwood, both Green (50 percent less newly forested wood) and a great surface for Kyle to navigate.

A new Heat &?Glo direct-vent fireplace is angled into the living room, with a new TV above and Holiday cherry bookcase cabinets on either side, and will be viewable from the kitchen island and the dining room cum billiard room. The kitchen’s island serves as dining and work space. The dishwasher is raised for Kyle’s convenience, the refrigerator includes ice maker and bottom mount freezer, and the induction cooktop will never get hot. Pull-down upper cabinet shelving and mostly drawers for storage will all make Kyle’s life much easier. The Cambria® countertops in Welshpool Black plus a porcelain slate backsplash with metallic colored glass tile insets lend a dramatic yet masculine flair.

Kyle’s bedroom has been rearranged for his convenience and his new bath boasts a grand shower. Kyle doesn’t want a lot of help, but if at some time he requires it, this shower is ready to go. Now he’s got both stand up shower heads and a hand-held for use on the built-in seat. Corian® surfaces from Innovative Surfaces are lovely to look at and even easier to clean at vanity and sink plus a unique surprise at shower wall.

Downstairs, another direct-vent gas fireplace by Majestic from Automatic Garage Door and Fireplace replaces the inefficient wood-burner sets off the rec room. This space can be closed off as a private living room for the caregiver. The caregiver’s suite also encompasses a nicely sized bedroom, sitting room, and a fabulous private bath.

There’s much more to see, and your $5.00 donation at the door will help the Builders Outreach Foundation continue doing projects like Operation Dream Makeover.

Charmed ~ From Make Believe to Dreams Come True

Prepare to be swept away by this unbelievably romantic home. From the fine detailing to overall ambiance, this home evokes the story of “happily ever after.” The home's whimsical yet sensitive design allows well-planned embellishments to delight but never overwhelm. The graceful combination of gables, board and batten, dormers, stucco, roof bracketing and cedar shingles, plus a unique eyebrow window creates a true dream remodel.

Builder S. J. Anderson Co., Inc. and design firm Resitecture, Inc. have created and remodeled classic homes in this Edina neighborhood before, and they understand the community strives for timeless designs. This home feels like it could have existed well before the neighborhood's first 1950’s homes originated this idyllic suburb. The original rambler was quite typical, yet it rested overlooking Minnehaha Creek, what the builder and designer knew was a diamond in the rough.

The marvelous, vintage exterior is just the beginning. Open the front door and you are received graciously with warm tones and an Old World feel supplied by the finely crafted cherry staircase and open buffet. Master craftspeople of days gone by would appreciate the natural stone, artisan tile work and the use of cherry cabinetry and trim work throughout. The gourmet kitchen with handmade copper accents, granite counters and a center island to-die-for begins your tour of the main level.

The owners’ suite is built to soothe with his-and-her closets and a huge pavered terrace to enjoy the stunning views. The bath showcases a two-person shower equipped with both steamer and sprayer functions, along with a solid granite-topped, recessed whirlpool airtub. Natural Travertine tile was expertly installed and paired with rich marble accents to complete this retreat.

Scherer Brothers Lumber provided the Marvin windows that light each room perfectly, and frame the tranquil story-book surroundings of creek, mature trees and beautifully landscaped grounds. A treetop “Romeo and Juliet” balcony tucked off the sanctuary hints at the romance lingering in this home’s nooks and crannies. Here, almost 40 feet above Minnehaha Creek, you’ll survey your kingdom, creating your own fairy tale set to the music of the babbling brook that runs through the backyard. The enchanting backyard is a focal point for a cedar deck off the kitchen/family area, with a stepping path to a sequestered bluestone patio.

Graceful living spaces, nurturing private areas, and classic elements of style ensure every inch of this home is comfortable, functional and gorgeous. Even the lookout lower level with a full kitchen and theater room offers a broad bank of windows to welcome ample natural light. The sanctuary room set above the garage is just one more delight that showcases what good design can do for a “bonus” room/secondary owners’ bedroom.

You will feel the pulse of the European countryside running through this home's veins; spacious yet cozy, mature yet all sparkly new. This bold, imaginative residence blends contemporary technology with quaint elegance slowing time to a standstill at “Classic”.

You’ll find much more to love here, so don’t miss this fabulous Dream Remodeled Home, and your $5.00 donation will go entirely to the good works of the Builders Outreach Foundation.
