Choose a Professional?Remodeler

Professional remodelers are in the business of managing a myriad of people and products, as well as interacting with your family on a regular basis. They must be ethical, professional, and well-trained to assure you of a job well done.

That’s why you should always carefully check the credentials and references of a remodeler before signing any contracts. In Minnesota all residential contractors must be licensed, so contact the Department of Labor and Industry (www.doli.state.mn.us) to ensure their license is current and unblemished. Contact the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) to check for complaints. And definitely call the references that a reputable remodeler will provide. Ask their past clients about the quality of construction, business practices, day-to-day interaction with your family, and if they would choose to remodel with the company again.

We also urge you to do business with a member of the Builders Association of the Twin Cities Remodelers (BATC-R) council. Companies who join our trade association and its remodelers council are leaders of the industry and have shown that professionalism is important to them. They have access to the latest information in building science, technology, products, even business management through BATC-University. BATC members sign an ethics agreement and agree to uphold our minimum quality standards. BATC works to keep housing affordable for Twin?Cities residents and uses the talents of its members to give back to the community through our charitable arm, the Builders Outreach Foundation. Additionally, should a dispute arise, every BATC member must agree to non-binding mediation, that we arrange for you and your contractor.

Another reason to choose a BATC-R council member is their ability to earn nationally-recognized certification as a Certified Graduate Remodeler and a Certified Aging in Place Specialist. The Certified Graduate Remodelor™ (CGR) and Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) are exclusive professional designations. Earning either designation means the remodeler has met strict prescribed standards of business experience and practices as well as educational requirements. CGR is designed to increase remodelers’ professional credibility by identifying those who demonstrate exceptional business integrity, competence and a solid track record of consumer satisfaction. The CAPS designation was created with the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) to help remodelers better meet the needs of their customers as they age.

While BATC is well-known for our Parade of HomesSM events, we’re also a great resource for our members, for the housing industry, and for you. Find out more at www.paradeofhomes.org or call us at 651-697-1954. Remodeling can be a wonderful experience resulting in a home that will make your life more enjoyable for years to come, or it can be a nightmare. So remember, BATC, it’s remodelers council, and our Parade of HomesSM is...Where Dream Homes Come True®.
