The Builders Outreach Foundation...Dream Remodeled Project

BOF was initiated as a way to promote home ownership opportunities for those whose financial condition puts them below the level of publicly subsidized affordable homes. It was also established as a way to contribute to the revitalization of our core cities. Since BATC has nearly 1,600 professional members and associates, BOF is in the unique position to access to the best, most professional resources in the home building community.

Since its inception in 1992, BOF has completed 17 projects to provide affordable workforce housing for families in the Twin Cities and surrounding communities. It has also been involved with numerous smaller projects that fit its mission, and assisted Habitat for Humanity when they built five homes in their Aspen Grove Development in Burnsville, MN.

In 2008 BOF completed a full home remodel in conjunction with BATC members, BATC associates and the BATC Remodelers Council. A young Marine veteran who had sustained serious injuries in the Iraq war needed his home modified to accommodate his rehabilitation needs. Operation Dream Makeover, as this project was called, became a rallying point for many Minnesotans. It was “Minnesota's own version of ABC's “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” according to an October 9, 2007 article in the Pioneer Press. Operation Dream Makeover was featured in the Spring 2008 Parade of Homes Remodelers ShowcaseSM and in March of 2008 Governor Tim Pawlenty was the featured speaker at our Big Reveal event when the “new” home was presented to this courageous veteran and his family. In the end we accomplished so much more than our original goal of making his home more comfortable and accessible.

In the current economic downturn, affordable workforce housing and neighborhood stabilization is more critical than ever. BOF is in a unique position to assist with these needs and continues to touch lives through their work. A woman whose family now owns a BOF home said it best:

“My life dream has always been of owning my own home…of having something my kids could hold on to, a future, a goal, security. These are the things mostimportant to me and worth reaching out for. I’ve volunteered for Habitat [For Humanity] to help build homes for others. Thank you for this opportunity of a lifetime.”

Dream Remodeled Home, Entry #4
Ispiri, LLC
351 W. Highway 96
North Oaks

Living in the Lap of Luxury

Start with a desirable North Oaks address, remove the old all the way to the studs, stretch the 11,000 square feet with an addition, and dig up the tired old pool...what you end up with is a canvas just waiting to become a masterpiece. And that’s exactly what you’ll find Ispiri has created in this, our Builders Outreach?Foundation Dream Remodeled Home.

“We were excited to purchase a house with strong bones in the beautiful setting of North Oaks,” explained homeowners. “It had all the space, structure, and location to fit our lifestyle; it unfortunately didn’t feel like us inside.”

Now it does, and luxuriously. Every inch is personalized and gracious, from the imported knotty walnut front entry doors to the Brazilian walnut flooring throughout the main level. The foyer is adorned with a beautifully hand-painted faux finish from a local artist, with more hand-painted touches on ceilings throughout.

Cabinetry crafted from knotty alder with cherry accents flank the large gourmet kitchen with two granite-topped islands plus a custom built-in pewter-topped hutch. The appliances include stainless steel Sub-Zero® refrigerator and freezer, gas cooktop with an elegant, custom hand-forged copper vent hood, plus separate beverage drawers.

The main-level owners’ suite is gracefully set in the new addition, boasting in-floor heat under a herringbone patterned wood floor. Private, comfortable and offering all the lavish features you’d expect, this space is a parent’s dream come true.

Upstairs you’ll find the perfect “boys’ quarters” all their own for the family’s three sons. Each have their own style reflected in the playfully designed rooms. The convenient bonus room on this level is truly tucked away yet is perfect for her office and keeping an eye on mischievous young men.

The home’s lower level is best described as an “entertainment suite” with multiple areas and over 5,000 square feet for tons of fun activities. Details set the stage, with columns and wainscot panels framing both theater and billiards spaces. Arched brick accents the wine cellar with storage space for over 2,000 bottles. You’ll sweat in style with exotic zebra wood cabinets and pop-up plasma TV in the exercise room. A copper-inlaid, ceiling with custom-milled curved-cherry crown trim, wall sconces and in-floor heat flow throughout this entertainer’s paradise. A playroom with custom laid marmoleum flooring, and a fun a hide-a-way and loft gives kids of all ages a place where make-believe comes to life.

Outside hasn’t been ignored either. The backyard oasis is complete with full-size volleyball and tennis courts plus a half-court basketball area. The deck made from low-maintenance Timber Tec® decking with copper accents complements the copper gutter system and shows off the custom-designed pool. Hidden pool covers keep this a safe place for kids to play.

Hidden behind the scenes are over 45,000 feet of low voltage wires, hidden speakers and an elaborate overhaul on the electric and gas services coming into the house. This home is now able to truly run itself (with the touch of a button from strategically positioned command centers). The four new furnaces, heat pumps and super-insulated building envelope creates efficiencies that will save the homeowners energy costs for years to come.

“While the magnitude of this project was daunting, Ispiri’s team kept us on track with the process,” say the homeowners. “Their execution and amazing attention to detail is evident in the beautiful craftsmanship of our remodeled dream home.”

Many more grand details await discovery. This is truly a Dream Remodeled Home you must see.
