Parade of HomesSM Prince and Princess Crowned
11/12/2008
Mason Cameron and Cozette Bennett crowned as 2008 Parade of HomesSM Prince and Princess
In celebration of the Parade of HomesSM 60th year, the Builders Association of the Twin Cities (BATC) brought back an aspect from the 50’s: coronating Parade of HomesSM royalty. Instead of young women in gowns, this year the prince and princess are youngsters (under 12 years of age) who showcased their creativity by drawing their dream home.
The coronation was held on October 5th at Parade HomeSM #249 in Blaine. Mason Cameron, age 11, was crowned Parade of HomesSM Prince for a colored pencil rendition of a brick-accented Prairie-styled two story with front pond, elegant gable rooflines and car and basketball hoop in the driveway. Princess Cozette Bennett’s dream home drawing showed a six-story home drawn in “doll-house” style with rooms featuring a kitchen and dining room, hallway and living room on the main floor plus indoor sport courts for tennis, soccer and volleyball, a technology room, movie theater, spa, indoor pool and hot tub, restaurant, four bedrooms with attached baths, and a pet room in the attic. An outdoor slide descended from the top floor to the exterior moat too.
The drawings from all eight finalists were on display at the coronation event. Speakers included BATC Executive Vice President Joshua Fowler, Accent Homes’ owner Bud Dropps, and artist Jane Elias who talked about the various art entries and crowned Mason and Cozette. Mason is the son of Danielle Cameron, owner of Diamond Homes in Stillwater, and Cozette is the granddaughter of Gordon Cremers, owner of Amazing EZ Screen Porch Windows in Minneapolis.
Judges for the eight finalists included three professional artist panels: Jane Elias, artist and owner of children’s art studio Simply Jane (www.simplyjane.com); John Simpson, Creative Director and Julie Boyden, Art Director with Bolin Marketing; and Laurie Spartz, Dawnita Parmely, and Casey Hafner, Parade of HomesSM graphic designers.
The drawing contest was open to BATC family members under age 12. The other six finalists included four boys who were named Lord of Homes:
Luke Maly, age 7, son of Lance Maly, JJJ Specialty Company
Joshua Eernisse, age 6, son of Michelle Eernisse, Mpls. St. Paul Magazine
Dirk Kuiken, age 6, nephew of Jim Kuiken, Accent Homes
Preston Kuiken, age 6, nephew of Jim Kuiken, Accent Homes
And two girls were awarded the title Lady of Homes:
Makena Pratt, age 7, daughter of Art and Susan Pratt, Pratt Homes
Lucy Dropps, age 2, daughter of Ed Dropps, Accent Homes
Lords and Ladies received an 80-piece art set. Mason and Cozette each received an art-full gift basket with a variety of art and architecture drawing tools and supplies plus a $50 gift certificate to host an art party at Simply Jane art studio.
