Mike Swanson Elected BATC 2009 President

The Builders Association of the Twin Cities (BATC) has announced the election of its 2009 President and Board of Directors. Mike Swanson, Minnesota Division Vice President and Corporate Risk Manager for Rottlund Homes, was elected to serve as the association’s president for 2009. Additionally, a slate of 24 members were elected to serve as the governing body of the association.
Swanson will oversee the activities of the nearly 1600-member trade association that provides a meeting place for the industry, education for its members, interaction with cities and regional governments, and annually sponsors the Parade of Homessm, with its two new home tours, two remodeling tours, and a year-round on-line housing resource, www.paradeofhomes.org.
“Mike is a great choice to lead our association during this challenging time,” says K.C. Chermak, Pillar Homes Partner, Inc. and BATC’s 2008 President. “His knowledge and background in the construction industry coupled with his exceptional management skills will help us maintain quality service for our members and continue to provide exceptional home construction and remodeling resources for Twin Cities residents.”
Swanson has worked in the home building industry for over 30 years, the past 19 with Rottlund Homes. He began his career swinging a hammer on construction sites. His abilities soon led him to positions as superintendent, construction manager, purchasing manager, warranty manager, and, as vice president of operations, manager of all of those departments.
Committed to the industry, Swanson has volunteered his expertise to numerous committees and task forces. He’s represented BATC and the Builders Association of Minnesota on the advisory committee to Minnesota’s Building Codes and Standards division (currently under the MN Department of Labor and Industry). He was the driving force behind improving the construction model for BATC’s charitable arm, the Builders Outreach Foundation. And he was a leader in creating Minnesota GreenStar, a regionally appropriate Green certification program for new homes and remodeling, elected to serve as president of its Board of Directors in 2008.
“Rottlund Homes owner, David Rotter and CEO Todd Stutz have been very supportive of my involvement at BATC.,” explains Swanson. “They understand that it is our corporate responsibility to help lead the industry rather than just sitting on the sidelines.”
