10 Damage-Free Ways to Decorate Your Walls
If you’re feeling bored with your walls here are some creative ideas from our guest blogger, Susannah Hemmings. Another great idea, frame a big expanse of wallpaper, illustrated above in this photo from Spring Parade Home #242 by JMS Homes.
You moved into your home 5 years ago and paid for floor to ceiling paint jobs for each room of the house. And while you still love the color and certainly don’t want to pay to repaint, you feel a little stifled by your choice. Don’t fret! There are plenty of ways to spice up your wall space without damaging that expensive paint job.
Check out the list below for some inspiration!
1. Tapestries
Cloth tapestries can transform your walls from boring to exciting in an instant. Tapestries come in multiple sizes from big to small. A large tapestry can cover your whole wall, making the room reflect whatever scene is depicted in the cloth.
2. Hang Lights
Sometimes a little bit of light can go a long way. Hanging lantern lights or even Christmas lights can add a warm glow to your room. Put them in the darker corners of your room or use them to accent your entertainment area without causing a glare.
3. Shelf Gallery
If you have plenty of pictures but no way to hang them on you walls, a shelf gallery could solve your problem. Whether you have shelves of your own or you’re willing to make your own bookshelf, you can line the shelves with pictures or any knick-knacks you have.
4. Washi Art
Washi tape is a renter’s dream come true for decorating. The tape comes in multiple colors and doesn’t damage the walls. You can make wall designs and picture frames or anything else you can imagine.
5. Removable Wallpaper
Adhesive removable wallpaper adds beautiful designs to your wall with very little stress. With most being just peel and stick, you can apply and remove them easily. These wallpapers come in multiple colors and designs, so your options are virtually limitless.
6. Velcro Strips and Command Strips
Both Velcro strips and command strips can let you hang up heavier items without needing to use a nail and hammer. You can buy them at your local hardware store and use them to hold up a variety of wall decorations.
7. Fabric and Starch
If you have starch, fabric and paint rollers, you can decorate your walls without ever needing to buy paint. You can get some fabric from your local crafts store or recycle some old sheets to make some designs. With a little bit of patience, you can reinvent your walls without sacrificing your security deposit.
8. Picture Collage
Using the aforementioned washi tape or painter’s tape, you can create a collage using any pictures you have. Make a pet collage, a friend collage or even a collage of the places you’ve visited – or want to visit. Print out pictures from your computer or go old-school with some Polaroid pictures.
9. Paper Art
In addition to hanging up pictures, you can also create designs using colorful paper. You can create geometric shapes, cut out designs or create a collage. Use washi tape or painter’s tape to hold it up.
10. Wall Decals
Vinyl wall decals can add some fun to your walls without damaging them. You can get word art, designs or characters. They’re easy to apply and you can reuse them if you feel like redecorating.
Decorating your walls doesn’t have to be a permanent thing. With a little ingenuity and a lot of creativity, your painted walls don’t have to feel dated. These options will let you transform your walls and add color and a festive feel to your beautiful home.
