Building New To Fit His Lifestyle
New homes built in Minnesota today have better components, better materials, and they’re constructed in a way that is, quite simply, better. They’re more durable, safer, healthier, and more environmentally friendly. Plus, you pick the floor plan and neighborhood that fit your lifestyle. We asked one recent homebuyer to share why he decided to build new.
Buyer: Rob Thelemann
Builder: Lee Lyn Construction, LLC
Location: Watertown, MN
Q. Why did you decide on a new construction home?
A: At the time the market was a sellers’ market and was very competitive. I spent many months looking at homes online prior to the sale of my house. When one would catch my eye I needed to respond ASAP and probably offer more than their asking price to even have a chance. I quickly decided that building a new home would be the best option for me. It would offer many new features like customization, energy efficiencies, and finding a lot/area that would meet my needs.
Q. Why did you choose your particular neighborhood?
The area I choose offered many attractions like local fishing lakes, wildlife, walking and bike trails, and it had a small town feel but was close enough to the cities. I spoke with a lot of the neighbors and did some online research of the area and what it had to offer.
Q. What are some features of your home you’re most excited about?
A: The garage. I remember the builder stating it’s not a garage unless I can park my 1-ton truck and still have room behind it. That spoke volumes to me since my hobbies are fishing and woodworking. I love the open feel of the house and how wonderful it will be to entertain. Everyone will feel a part of the ambiance. These are some of the outstanding features, but I absolutely love the entire house design!
Q. How did you personalize your new home?
A: I had many nice features (solid oak wood flooring, three windows located up by the vaulted ceiling, and stained oak trim and doors) that came standard with the home—that’s one of the main reasons I chose my builder. The one area I’m glad I chose to change was the vinyl flooring. I went with tile I supplied for my bathrooms and laundry room. I also went with an unfinished basement so I can put my own personal spin on that at a later date.
Q. What did you enjoy most about the build process?
I enjoyed seeing the progress of the build, personalizing the entire decor, having the opportunity to be part of the build, and working with a great construction team. The builder was extremely generous with making things right and not always worried about the business side. I felt extremely lucky to have selected such an extraordinary builder.
Q. What advice we would you have for anyone thinking of buying new?
A: Do your homework up front and don’t settle for average. Always remember that your builder is working for you and should take the time to explain anything you may be questioning. Have fun and enjoy the process—it’s extremely rewarding in the end!
