Design Trends From the Fall Parade of Homes
The Parade of Homes is a great way to see the newest trends in home design and the styles that are continuing to shine. From freestanding bathtubs to statement ceilings, this year’s fall tour had no shortage of details that were sure to leave tour-goers inspired. Here are a few of the trends we spotted from Minnesota homebuilders.
1. Black Windows
Nothing says modern and clean like the simplicity of black and white. Black can instantly turn windows into the focal point of any room. The trend creates a strong contrast when juxtaposed with light walls and adds just the right amount of drama.

2. Shiplap
Shiplap has been having it’s moment for quite a while now, and it didn’t slow down on this fall’s Parade of Homes. Builders used horizontal shiplap around fireplaces and on feature walls to add that farmhouse flair.

3. Artful Staircases
Artful construction brings beauty to an otherwise utilitarian home feature. The trend toward unique staircases creates that “wow factor” and can fit with many different home styles depending on the materials chosen.

4. Freestanding Tubs
Looking to create a spa-style bathroom? Freestanding tubs took center stage on the Fall Parade of Homes, serving as a relaxing spot to unwind and an attention-grabbing focal point of the room.

5. Ceiling Beams
There are many different architectural details that can be incorporated into a ceiling design to bring a room to life. Whether they’re used for structural reasons or for design, exposed beams add visual interest and can be found in homes at every price point.

6. Wallpaper Whimsy
Wallpaper is a great way to showcase personality in an otherwise mundane space. This year we saw homebuilders offering a fresh spin on laundry room design and bathrooms with playful prints.
