As Fall approaches and darkness comes earlier, we thought it would be a good time to share some smart ideas for home security. Here’s a few from our Guest Blogger, Carol Trehearn.
Having a secure home will not only give you peace of mind; it will also protect your family from the outside world. Your home is a special place that should never be violated by those wishing to do you harm. Unfortunately, break-ins are on the rise in many parts of the country. So, securing your home is of the utmost importance. Today, we are going to learn a few things that you can do to make your home safer.
Install LED Floodlights
If your front and back yard are dark at night, this could give would-be thieves a place to hide. A great way to deter someone from lurking around your property is by installing an LED floodlight. These bright lights will not only scare away people but unwanted animal guests as well. If you have a problem with raccoons turning over your trash cans, these lights can put a stop to the problem. The best part is LED lights don’t use a lot of electricity to work and they will last for many years without the need to replace them.
A great way to know when someone has driven onto your property is with a driveway alarm. These simple devices can be placed at the entrance of your driveway, and when someone drives up, an alarm will go off inside the home. Many of these alarms are wireless and run on batteries, which makes them easy to install. Driveway alarms come in many different price ranges, so finding one that matches your budget won’t be a hassle. Also, driveway alarms can be used as perimeter alarms when you use more than one to complete the perimeter. This is great for someone looking to surround their home with an invisible shield to warn them about intruders.
Get A Dog
This low-tech approach is one of the best ways to secure your property. For thousands of years, humans have been using dogs to protect their livestock, as well as their homes. Dogs have great hearing and can sense when something is not right. This can alert you to any problems and will give you a heads up. When you are not at home, they can protect your property and most criminals will not risk tangling with a large canine. There are many different guard dog breeds to choose from, so finding one to meet your needs will be easy. Many of these dogs are family-friendly and are perfect for homes that have children and other pets. But, as with any dog, you should socialize them at an early age to prevent any form of aggression towards the family.
Even if you live in the nicest town in America, you can still become a victim of property theft. So, make sure you do something to protect your home today. As they always say, it’s better to be safe than sorry! You never know who may be lurking around.
