LED Lighting for your Home
They’re the most energy efficient bulb on the market—and they last longer than any other. Yes, they’re more expensive, but you recover the cost in energy savings over time.
The reason to invest a little more for your bulbs is energy savings: LEDs can save you up to 85% compared to old, incandescent light bulbs. Look for the ENERGY STAR® label and buy your bulbs from a reputable company.
Where to start
- Determine the high use areas of your home— like the kitchen or hallways. Since these bulbs are on more, you’ll save more by replacing them.
- Take note of the wattage of these bulbs you want to replace
- Do the math. LEDs produce more light for the energy they use; the wattage of an LED is roughly 15% that of an incandescent. (15% of a 60-watt bulb equals a 9-watt LED. In this case you can round up to 10 or 12 watts).
- Save your receipt. LED bulbs should last 10-20 years, depending on the manufacturer. If one burns out too soon, take it back.
What color light do you want?
Light temperature is based on the Kelvin scale which determines the type of color of the light. Keep in mind, the higher the Kelvin temperature, the higher the price.
