What Your Home Needs for a Makeover this Fall
With autumn just around the corner, it’s time to prepare your home for the fast approaching holidays. Fall is perhaps one of the most beloved seasons. It involves many of our favorite things such as football, cooler weather, county fairs, and of course, savory food. Here are few ways to get your home ready for all your autumnal affairs from our guest Blogger Lee Flynn.
Get Warm and Cozy
One of the most anticipated aspects of fall is the promise of cooler temperatures. It brings much-needed relief to many, especially in regions where the summer heat can be downright exhausting. While the chill can be invigorating, it’s a good idea to have some warm blankets handy for yourself and your guests. Crochet and knitted blankets that feature natural hues are a great way to decorate a space when draped across the sofa or even your own bed. Go the extra mile by adding throw pillows with festive patterns of fall leaves, crows, or pumpkins. You’re bound to find them on display at the supermarket or your local craft store.

Add a Touch of Nature
Hands-down, fall décor consists of some of the easiest and cheapest seasonal decorating projects around. All you really need is a hot glue gun, a few bucks, and a tinge of creativity. A centerpiece on your dining room table adds a lot of pizzazz and can be easily made. Head on over to your local dollar store and pick up a cylinder glass vase along with a candle that will fit inside it. Afterward, make a trip to the park, or even your own backyard for a few twigs and fallen leaves. Simply glue the twigs and leaves to the vase in an orderly fashion, add orange ribbon or some twine, and you’re done! Set it on the table for your family and friends to enjoy all season long. For a pleasant scent, use sticks of cinnamon instead.
Practice the Old Ways
For our ancestors, the coming of autumn signaled the end of the harvesting season. They had to come up with crafty ways to preserve their food in order to not go hungry during the winter. These days food is available all year round thanks to advanced farming techniques and refrigeration, however, implementing old food preparations can be very rewarding and tasty in this modern age. Having a dehydrated food storage is a great way to keep meats, fruits, and veggies on hand for casual snacking. They also make great additions to cakes, stews, and other fall favorites. You may purchase your own foods dehydrator or research oven and air drying methods online. If you’re not too keen on the idea of cooking with dehydrated goods, you might consider using them as decoration. Make a garland out of dried apples and oranges to hang in an entryway and use the leftovers to set out as potpourri.
Don’t Skip Fall Cleaning
You may be thinking that your thorough spring cleaning was enough, but it’s important to keep your home in tip-top shape as your friends and family begin to frequently the area. It’s a great time to donate clothing and household items that no longer see any use. Not only will you be helping the less fortunate, but you’ll also free up space in your household for any new belongings you might acquire over Christmas. Make time to dust and hire a professional carpet cleaning service, or even rent a steam cleaner to clear your home of annoying allergens. The decaying grass and leaves outdoors are already enough to cause a few sniffles here and there. You might as well spare yourself and others while indoors.
Get a jumpstart on the season and begin these fun projects ASAP. Have the kids get involved when crafting decorations for some much needed quality time. Finish the job and create enjoyable memories while you’re at it.
