What’s Trending on the Spring Parade of Homes
The latest spring trends in home decor, tile, appliances and finishes were hot topics on KARE 11 and WCCO this week as our Parade of Homes Style Editor, Katy Baar, shared the coolest must-have products from The Tile Shop, Warners’ Stellian, Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery, and Hygge & West.
See all of the products below, and read about the really cool features we didn’t have time to share on tv.
Popular Finish: Black Stainless
We featured two impressive products that showcase the latest famed finish: black stainless.
The first product was Warners’ Stellian’s LG’s Black Stainless french door refrigerator that they started carrying in their showroom last summer. Its appeal is impressive. Homeowners will still enjoy this refrigerator’s satin shine, but the appliance also resists fingerprints, which was a major headache for stainless steel owners. Homeowners wanted something that looked great but didn’t need to be cleaned everyday. This look is a new alternative to stainless steel, providing a darker and more distinct look for homeowners who want their kitchens to still look sleek and fresh.
The coolest part about this product, however, is its door within a door feature. Press a little button on the door and open an extra compartment for easy access to commonly used foods/beverages without letting all the cold air out of the whole fridge!
The second product we shared was a black stainless steel tile from The Tile Shop in a square and penny round pattern. Not only does this product add wow factor to any kitchen backsplash, the black stainless finish expands options for mixing metals, combining well with satin nickel, chrome, oil-rubbed bronze and gold.
Gold is Back and Better than Ever
From accessories, to lighting, fixtures, knobs and hardware, gold is making a comeback. Indeed, gold is number one again, though probably not in the same way you remember it. We featured a Delta Trinsic Single Handle Pull Down Faucet from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery to showcase the product’s “Champagne Bronze” quality.
Today, gold finishes are more muted than the past, with a bronzed tint and golden gleam. Aside from the beautiful finish… this faucet is also available with Touch2O capability. It will turn on and off with a simple touch anywhere on the spout or handle. With this feature, the faucet also has a Temperature Sense LED indicator which will show BLUE for cold, MAGENTA for warm and RED for hot at the base of the faucet. No need to touch the water to know if it is the right temperature!
Bold Statement Tile
After lifestyle curator and nationally-known blogger Kate Arends of Wit and Delight showed off cement tile in her recent kitchen remodel (that we featured inside our Spring 2016 Remodelers Showcase Guidebook), we had to know more. Luckily, The Tile Shop carries three new patterns and colors in their encaustic cement tile collection. Learn more about this trend in our recent blog post We Can’t Get Enough of Cement Tile.
To achieve a similar bold look – especially as a kitchen backsplash, bathroom or fireplace surround tile – you probably gravitated toward the three dimensional tile we showcased on air. The 3D effect adds lots of drama, while the neutral color palette looks great with almost anything. With hints of gray and biege, this tile was cleverly dubbed “greige” because it is the perfect combination.
The Bigger the Better: Large Format Tile & More
We wish we had more time and, quite honestly, more table space at KARE 11 and WCCO to show off The Tile Shop’s striking wall accents (like rustic reclaimed wood or faux brick) or their large format tile. Here’s skinny on this big trend:
Textured finishes, like The Tile Shop’s Reclaimed Wood Tile, will add depth and drama to any wall. The product is unique and has a one-of-a-kind appeal, while still being easy to obtain and install. For another dramatic floor-to-ceiling look, The Tile Shop’s Faux Brick ceramic tileis an eye-catching option. Get that original, natural look without any hassle since ceramic tile is easy to clean and maintain.
For an even bigger look, large format pieces are considered the tile of all tile. This trend works great in the bathroom if you want to eliminate grout lines for a highly impressive look.
Pops of Patterns and Colors
When we got our hands on Hygge & West’s Peonies wallpaper, we were obsessed. And, we were tickled pink that this mint green wall covering featured gorgeous flowers in Pantone’s rose quartz color. This pale pink look is one of Pantone’s colors of the year, so expect to see a lot of variations of this color when you’re out and about touring.
You can also expect to see lots of spring prints and patterns as you tour over 450 new homes, through March 20, 2016. See something you love? Use the hashtag #LetInspirationBloom on our social pages so we can see what you’re LIKING.
