In the family room, we refreshed the existing built-in cabinetry with new paint and added a custom fireplace mantle that serves as a striking focal point. Every detail of this renovation was designed to increase comfort, improve flow, and make the home feel fresh and inviting. From the moment you step inside, this home feels transformed. A dated layout is now a bright, functional space blending classic charm with modern style. The remodeled kitchen was fully gutted and rebuilt with new cabinetry, quartz counters, luxury vinyl plank flooring, and updated appliances—perfect for everyday living.

This unique multi-level Plymouth, MN home was built in 1988. The kitchen had been updated in 2009 with a basis layout provided by a big box store, which suited them just fine at the time. But now that they were empty nesters and entertained their growing family often, the clients came to us wanting to upgrade their kitchen again, but this time in grand fashion. They wanted a show-stopping kitchen, complete with gourmet appliances, a better work triangle, seating for at least four, and separate space for serving beverages. They felt their existing kitchen was dark and they were wanting to move away from all of the gray tones.
The space was essentially one big rectangular space for kitchen and dining room. There was no need to change the footprint of the room – just a need to make better use of the space. The designer presented a layout with stunning details that improved appliance locations, workspace, entertainment space and seating. The refrigerator was relocated to the left side of the kitchen’s back wall, flanked by two tall pantries with rollout shelves. The gas range with double ovens was centered on this wall, with a magnificent wood hood above as the crowning jewel of the kitchen. A drawer microwave was placed in a base cabinet to the right of the range, with a pocket door appliance garage above it for multiple small appliances. The sink was moved to the grand center island, with the DW placed to the right to avoid conflicts with the refrigerator doors and range door. Beautiful custom end panels were designed to cap both ends of the island and the seating area. A dry bar was added to the dining room that includes an under-counter beverage refrigerator and ample counter space for entertaining buffet style meals, snacks and beverages. Lighting was vastly improved by adding several LED recessed can lighting in the kitchen and dining room areas, in addition to beautiful open pendants over the island and dining table to reflect light in all directions. Task lighting was added under the upper cabinets on the range wall. A beautiful sconce highlights open shelving at the hutch, and the lower shelf has integrated LED task lighting.
Cabinetry was selected in two finishes: a warm white paint with an antique brushed brown glaze for the uppers and tall cabinetry, and a dark brown stained cherry for the base cabinetry. Warm white quartz countertops with chocolate veining were specified for low maintenance. The tired hickory flooring was replaced with a vibrant LVP with both warm and cool tones in it to completement the gray tile in the adjacent hallway that was not to be changed. This main level remodel started with a familiar request: replace the original honey oak finishes and create a space that feels open, modern, and functional.

We reworked the kitchen layout by removing walls between it and the mudroom entry, adding a pocket door, and extending cabinetry along the sink wall. This allowed for a larger, more functional island—one of the homeowner’s top priorities. A small pantry was removed to make way for a custom coffee and beverage bar with glass-front uppers, adding both style and convenience.

To create a seamless look across the main level, we replaced three types of flooring with wide-plank engineered hardwood. Trim and doors were updated with a clean, modern profile. The staircase received a striking upgrade with dark wood treads, black metal balusters, and crisp white accents for contrast.

The finished kitchen features Bertch cabinetry in Driftwood and Indigo, Cambria Lakedale quartz countertops, matte black hardware, and a Geoscapes picket tile backsplash—bringing together timeless style and practical design.
