This 24` x 20` three-season porch addition transformed a beautiful home that was missing usable outdoor living space. The homeowners envisioned a private retreat where they could enjoy their new hot tub year-round while still feeling connected to their backyard.
A key design discussion centered on whether the hot tub should be recessed into the porch floor or set on top of the decking. Ultimately, we chose to place it on the decking and incorporate a mechanical screen system. This solution provides a generous 12-foot opening, allowing for easy hot tub removal in the future if needed, while also creating incredible flexibility in how the space is used. Additional porch footings were necessary for this hot tub.
When open, the porch flows seamlessly to the yard, making it easy for kids, family, and friends to move in and out during gatherings. When Minnesota’s bugs make their inevitable appearance, the screen can be closed to keep the space comfortable and pest-free—without sacrificing views or airflow.
The homeowners had a clear vision for both the feeling of the space and the finishes, and it was a pleasure collaborating with them to bring that vision to life. We’re proud of the result and look forward to working with them again on their next project.
